Reader Feedback 2
Hi.
I read "Toby Visits Mommy" to the mothers in my parenting group and here is what they said "It sounds exactly like my visits", "I never knew kids could feel all that", "This story feels hopeful", "We need more books like this", "I'm going to try that with my child". "I cried because it's really good and true."

Reader Feedback!
Hi Everyone,
I wanted to share the following but also remain anonymous.
I taught all the children the slow breathing and they liked the idea of drawing when they were in time out. I instructed all of their foster parents to carry through on the slow breathing and try the drawing in time out. I added to some of the pages, as I read the book: Did you ever feel like that? They thought it was part of the book. Which may have made it easier to self disclose.
Boy age 5: kicked the book at one point when I was reading about a mom visit. He hasn't had a visits in many months due to their dirty drops. I sat quiet and he asked me to read again. He comments that his Aunt Jane (changed name) who he lives with hugs him but his mom didn't. His favorite page was when Toby hugged the stuffed dog. He stopped me a couple of other times from reading but then asked me to start again.
Girl age 6: When I came to the page where the tigers (etc.) are in Toby's tummy she commented that she felt all mixed up inside when she lived with her mom and couldn't wake her up. She was worried cause her mom had been in the hospital and has had chemo for cancer. She said she doesn't feel like crying after a visit and never does, but has made progress. When she had her first overnight at her dads she woke up at 11pm at went to her foster parents bed crying and she said it was because she had a happy time with her dad. Her foster mom comforted her and let her call her dad the next day. She remarked that she had a stuffed bear to hug at night like Toby's dog. I am a home based Therapist and have sessions on their floor by their beds. I asked her why Toby cried when he was to leave his mom and she said she didn't know. She wanted me to tell her and I said "let's guess", and she said "you first", I guessed because Toby could have ice cream for supper. and she said "no, he cried because he had to leave his mom." This helped her move through the process and connect to her mom. Her favorite page is 15.
Girl age 6: She feels all mixed up inside when her dad and mom yells at her to do the dishes but they don't tell her how and she is sent to her room. She says sometimes she cries when her parents leave at visit. She showed me her stuffed animal from Santa that she hugs when she is mad or sad. Her favorite page was 12.
What a wonderful book. Thanks for taking the time. Are there similar books out there like this. I have never seen them if so.
